Site details
Site description: During a recent rapid survey, Mauro (2003) found that the habitats on Mount Mak Fahik include extensive primary tropical dry forest above c.400 m, and those on Mount Sarim (to 725 m) include tropical dry forests, which have been repeatedly burnt, with patches of forest converted to various crops including corn and tobacco
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified by the 2014 CEPF Wallacea Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: Twenty-seven restricted-range species have been recorded in this IBA, including the Endangered Timor Green-pigeon, and the Critically Endangered Yellow-crested Cockatoo also occurs there (Mauro 2003).
Delineation rationale: 2015-06-10 (BL Secretariat): site area changed from 2961 ha to 2933 ha, following 2014 CEPF Ecosystem Profile.
