Site description: Alas Purwo is located on Blambangan Peninsula on the eastern most of Java.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Cuon alpinus, Trachypithecus auratus, Chelonia mydas, Dermochelys coriacea, Eretmochelys imbricata, Lepidochelys olivacea.Teluk Grajagan is used for turtles nesting site (Beudels & Kurnianto 1982, Watling 1990b, Hedges & Tyson 1996) and Bos javanicus (Grantham personal communication.).
Habitats
Summary of habitats in KBA: Alas Purwo dominated by lowland rainforest and dense beach forest and has dense bamboo forest. The aluvial land in the western area planted with rice, watermelon and vegetables. This area has 25% of the mangrove forest in Java Island (Sedhana & Soedrajad 1995).

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Turtle egg collection and hunting. Cutting of Kleinlovia kauki for industry and Acacia arabika introduction (Grantham personal communication., Beudels & Kurnianto 1982, MacKinnon et.al.1982, Watling 1990b).
