Site details

Site description: Wetland International (1997) describes this area as globally important wetland, with a very good condition of mangrove forest in West Kalimantan and this area also has a good peat swamp. This area is proposed as Ramsar site under the name of Southern Kapuas Swampsland.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Almost no information about bird from this area. Holmes (1997) recorded Ciconia stormi in Kubu River. This area probably has the same bird diversity as Gunung Palung. There is no more information except publication from Wetland International (1997). Storm's Stork Ciconis stormi is the only important species recorded in this area. Non-bird biodiversity: Nasalis larvatus, Helarctos malayanus, Crocodylus porosus and Tomistoma schlegelii (Wetlands International 1997).
