Site details


Site description: Pulau Moyo is small island (329 km2). Southern part of the island is hilly with elevation between 85-160 m.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified by the 2014 CEPF Wallacea Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: Ten Yellow-crested Cockatoo Cacatua sulphurea were recorded during 2 weeks survey by BirdLife International-Indonesia Programme in 1999 (Setiawan et.al.2000).
Delineation rationale: 2015-06-10 (BL Secretariat): site area changed from 22250 ha to 29997 ha, following 2014 CEPF Ecosystem Profile.

Habitats


Summary of habitats in KBA: Mangrove: dominated by Sonneratia, Rhizophora and BruguieraDeciduous rain forest: covered most of the northern part of the island. Dominated by Calophyllum, Cripteronis and Eugenia.Grassland: covered southest and mid-area of the island.Plantation and secondary vegetation.Generally, main habitat is tropical dry forest on limestone.

Threats


Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Shifting agriculture, hunting and timber collection for trade (Trainor et.al.2000), Beudels and Liman (1981) concluded that status alteration from Wildlife Sanctuary to Hunting Park can be regarded as a threat.
