Site details

Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified by the 2014 CEPF Wallacea Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: Poaching of Yellow-crested Cockatoo Cacatua sulphurea, is predicted started in 1970s and increase between 1980-1990. This is common in the forest along river. Bird population in Alor Island is estimated between 678-782 birds. In 1998 survey, around 30 birds were recorded from this area (Setiawan et.al. 2000). Follow-up survey is needed to monitor the bird population.
Delineation rationale: 2015-06-10 (BL Secretariat): site area changed from 5000 ha to 24348 ha, following 2014 CEPF Ecosystem Profile.
