Site details

Site description: An area of steppe divided by patches of forest.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Only a very short survey was carried out in 1996 (several days) and more research is needed. The IBA contains a high diversity of breeding raptors (4--8 pairs in a rather small area) and, although current data is only near criteria thresholds, it is undoubtedly of real importance, especially considering its small size.
Delineation rationale: 2014-08-12 (BL Secretariat): centroid coords adjusted to 48°36'21'N 42°37'44'E and site area changed to (or confirmed as) 3120 ha (rounded), on basis of refined polygon downloaded from Spatial Database on Important Bird Areas of Russia 2014 (© Russian Bird Conservation Union, © Transparent World).
