Site details

Site description: The topography is hilly. The forest extends from altitude 200 m asl.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. KBA identified by the 2014 CEPF Wallacea Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: Five from six globally threatened species live in this area (Lesmana et.al. 2000). New discovery in this century for Wetar Ground-dove Gallicolumba hoedtii also from this area. Follow up survey is needed especially for Timor Black Pigeon Turacoena modesta, Timor Imperial Pigeon Ducula cineracea, Yellow-crested Cockatoo Cacatua sulphurea, Wetar Ground-dove Gallicolumba hoedtii and Timor Green Pigeon Treron psittacea. Two of new species for Timor Island is Black-eared Cuckoo Chrysococcyx osculans and Eyebrowed Thrush Turdus obscurus live in this area. This area is one of the most threatened site in Timor.
Delineation rationale: 2015-06-10 (BL Secretariat): site area changed from 15000 ha to 36150 ha, following 2014 CEPF Ecosystem Profile.
