Site details
Site description: The village concentrate on the coastal area, and most of the people work as dry land farmer and fisherman. Main comodities are coconut, coffee, cashew, cacao, kapok, clove, nutmeg and also honey bee.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. KBA identified by the 2014 CEPF Wallacea Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: There are three endemic species of Wetar Island, two of which are Crimson-hooded Myzomela Myzomela kuehni and Black-chested Honeyeater Lichmera notabilis, surely live in this area. Wetar Figbird Sphecotheres hypoleucos is predicted lives in this area.
Delineation rationale: 2015-06-10 (BL Secretariat): site area changed from 45000 ha to 67131 ha, following 2014 CEPF Ecosystem Profile.
Habitats
Summary of habitats in KBA: The main habitat is dry deciduous forest (Monk et.al.1997). The vegetation typs are beach forest, lowland forest on limestone, savanna, galery forest, slope mountain volcanic forest and lower mountain forest (MacKinnon & Artha 1981).
