Site details
Site description: The largest island of the Baku archipelago, Glynanyi is volcanic in origin and almost devoid of vegetation, because of its large rabbit population.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The site of Azerbaijan's largest colony of Larus cachinnans and one of the largest in the Caspian Basin. Significant proportion (³1%) of national population breeding at site: Tadorna ferruginea (50 pairs), Sterna hirundo (min. 500 pairs), S. albifrons (80 pairs).

Threats
Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: The island is a protected Game Reserve, with no access during the breeding season, except to scientists. Hunting is prohibited, but there are frequent violations, and egg-collecting is a major threat.
