Site details


Site description: This site occurs in southern Sulawesi and includes Mount Lompobattang. Habitats include tropical lower and upper montane rainforest and associated aquatic ecosystems. Threats to this site include uncontrolled use of land/forest by local indigenous/local communities.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The Lampobatang Bunomys, Lompobattang Flycatcher, and Southern Hylocitrea meet KBA Criterion A1e and Limnonectes microtympanum meets KBA Criteria A1a and B1. An additional 19 birds, 3 invertebrates, 4 mammals, 3 plants, and 2 reptiles meet legacy KBA criteria and are in need of reassessment against the Global Standard.
Manageability of the site: This site was confirmed during the 2015-2018 AZE project. The Sulawesi Community Foundation aimed to strengthen management through a CEPF grant titled: Strengthening Local Capacity for Strengthened Management of the Karaeng-Lompobattang Key Biodiversity Area, and to Aman Singai in 2016 for "Buffer Zone Management in the Karaeng-Lompobattang Key Biodiversity Area/."
Delineation rationale: This site had originally been delineated as part of the 2015-2018 AZE project, and access to the original delineation rationale is no longer available.
