Site details
Site description: An large, semi-arid, treeless plain in the north-east of Zamora province. Mainly non-irrigated arable cultivation with patches of grassland between the cultivated fields and surrounding seasonal saline lagoons.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: This is a very important area for breeding steppic species. The lagoons are important for breeding and passage waterbirds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Tetrax tetrax (40 breeding individuals).
