Site description: The site includes coastal mountains with dry vegetation and an area of saltpans, that supports steppe vegetation. The main human activities are arable and livestock-farming, salt production and tourism.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Breeding birds include four of the 20 species in Europe that are restricted to the Mediterranean biome (when breeding).
