Site details

Site description: Area of mainly forested sand dunes on the Baltic Sea coast. Habitats of particular interest are the natural expanses of open gravel and pebble, up to 400-500 m wide, stretching along the shore. First listed as part of the IBA LV006 in 1994 [1], now also qualifies under the IBA C criteria. Fully protected: there is a 99.5% overlap with Uzava restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA. The gap between IBA and pSPA boundaries is due to differences in different methods of boundary setting.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
