Site details
Site description: The site comprises two large open raised bogs surrounded by predominantly mixed and coniferous forest. Initially listed as part of a larger IBA since 1994 [1, 2], it was later dropped from the list due to problems of merging, but now it qualifies under the IBA C criteria. Partially protected: there is a 89.2% overlap with Stompaku bogs restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
