Site details


Site description: This site is located at the northern border of the Pando Department along the suthern bank of the Beni river, northern Bolivia. The landscape in this site is comprised of a mosaics of gallery forests and grasslands. Climate is typically amazonian, humid and warm. This site has been little studied, there are occasional records of some rare species with some threat category.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. Trigger species, Hylopezus auricularis (A1b, B1)
Manageability of the site: The KBA does not have any current form of management. However, due to the interest of the Departmental Government on KBAs it is possible in the future to foster its conservation and management.
Delineation rationale: Site delineation first considered the trigger species’ occurrence records provided by experts and collaborating institutions. Experts then discussed the species occupation according to those records in the site, and the extent of the species’ main habitats/ecosystems to define the final boundaries of the site.
