Site description: The Musinga-Carauta KBA is located between the municipalities of Frontino and Dabeiba at Antioquia department in northwestern Colombia. It covers an area of 512km2 that covers an altitudinal range that goes from almost the 500 to 2000 meters above sea level. It is characterized for the presence of Sub-Andean Humid Forests with the presence of different kind of vegetation as Cedrela, Dendropanax, Ocotea, Cinchona and Ceroxylum.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The main reason for the nomination of this KBA is the species Bangsia melanochlamys (Black-and-gold Tanager), an endemic bird from Colombia, classified by the IUCN as Vulnerable, and two other range-restricted species, Scytalopus alvarezlopezi and Iridosornis porphyrocephalus. These three species triggered the B2 criteria
Manageability of the site: In accordance with the powers provided for in numeral 16 of article 31 of Law 99 of 1993 and article 2.2.2.1.2.3. of Decree 1076 of 2015, the administration of the protected area subject to formal registration belongs to the Corporation for Sustainable Development of Urabá - CORPOURABÁ, under the guidelines established by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.

Delineation rationale: This area was established as the remaining portion of the total area that had the KBA Orquídeas - Musinga - Carauta (ID: 29819) after extracting the area of PA Las Orquideas Natural National Park (ID: 14436) without any additional change.
