Site details


Site description: This site includes the Cuilco Mountains and the valley west of the city of Nenton, which is the southern limit of the central valley of Chiapas, Mexico. Natural habitat is threatened by an advancing agricultural border and forest fires.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site contains the entire known population of Dendrotriton rabbi. The Pink-headed Warbler (Ergaticus versicolor), Highland Guan (Penelopina nigra), Amethyst-throated Hummingbird (Lampornis amethystinus), Garnet-throated Hummingbird (Lamprolaima rhami), Rufous-browed Wren (Troglodytes rufociliatus) and Black Thrush (Turdus infuscatus) meet KBA criteria for threatened and/or range restricted species. An additional 23 species of birds meet legacy KBA criteria and are in need of reassessment against the Global Standard.
