Site details
Site description: Knapdale Lochs comprise a group of four small oligotrophic and mesotrophic lochs in the Knapdale area of Argyll and Bute in south-west Scotland. These are Dubh Loch, Loch Clachaig, Loch Fuar-Bheinne and Loch nan Torran. The lochs support a typical emergent and aquatic flora. The site holds the most southerly regular breeding population of Gavia arctica/i> in Britain.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
