Site details
Site description: Located in Piankou, Xiaoba and Kaiping townships of Beichuan County, Mianyang City. The IBA is on the western edge of the Sichuan Basin, in the centre of the Min Shan mountains, at the south-eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, and on the western side of the Longmen Shan mountains.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected mammals including Giant Panda, Sichuan Snub-nosed Langur and Takin.
