Site description: A bay with saltwater lagoons, saltwater marshes and mudflats.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds in winter, on a regular basis. The site is also important for breeding waders.
Delineation rationale: Includes a large seaward extension area (304908 ha) delineated on the basis of foraging area of breeding seabirds.
