Threats

Summary of threats to biodiversity at KBA: Tourism, including boating, and open access to the site for the public, results in disturbance of wintering and breeding birds. Pollution from heavy metals from the Gironde estuary (`Other' threats) is also a threat. There is a project to create a new nature reserve to protect the lagoon and sand-dunes.
