Site description: The KBA El Molino covers an area of 1227.188 sq km and it's located in the department of La Libertad, province of Sánchez Carrión (Chungay, Sarin, Curgos, Cochorco, and Sartimbamba districts), and province of Santiago de Chuco (Sitabamba district). The altitude range of the KBA El Molino is 1080-4200 masl. The KBA El Molino presents ca. 75% of Puna and ca. 25% of Selva Alta (Yungas).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: The KBA El Molino qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for A1, B1 and B2 criteria described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBA. This KBA harbors threatened plants (Matucana tuberculata and Parkinsonia peruviana), the geographical range restricted lizard Ameiva concolor and several geographical range restricted bird species as the Vulnerables Aglaectis aliciae and Forpus xanthops.

Delineation rationale: To the east it follows the Marañon River, to the north it follows the departmental limit between Cajamarca and La Libertad up to the Quebrada Brasil, to the west it follows the tributary of the Marañon River and the Sarín River, to the south it follows the San Sebastian River
