Site details


Site description: A small flat-topped island located about 1 km off the Northumberland coast at Amble. The IBA supports large colonies of breeding seabirds, notably terns, and Somateria mollissima.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: First identified in 1989; no significant boundary changes since. SPA boundary used from JNCC; digitised at 1:10,000 scale.
