Site details


Site description: The site occurs in the municipality of Urrao, department of Antioquia, in Colombia. It contains high Andean Forest and paramo, which includes a large portion of the Santa Bárbara stream basin, one of the main tributaries of the Urrao River.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site contains the entire known populations of the amphibians Atelopus nicefori, Nymphargus cristinae, and Pristimantis polemistes and the Urrao Antpitta (Grallaria fenwickorum). Three species of plants meet criteria for range restricted species.
Manageability of the site: Over 90% of this site is covered by protected areas.
Delineation rationale: Delineation follows the WDPA boundary for De Urrao National Protective Forest Reserves (WDPAID: 100722) slightly expanded to include the suitable habitat for two threatened, range restricted amphibians.
