Site details
Site description: Lochs and lochans with wooded islands and locally extensive sedge- beds.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Delineation rationale: First identified in 1992; extended in 2000 to include Hill Lochs at Glendoe; boundary radically reduced in 2007 to remove the catchment, the site including all of Loch Knockie and Nearby Lochs SPA and other lochs in the original IBA. 2000 area, 1330ha. SPA boundary used from JNCC; digitised at 1:10,000 scale. Additional area added on 1:50,000 maps.
