Site details


Site description: Two large lochs and associated heath, woodland and mire habitats that exhibit a classic vegetational succession from open water to fen. The site is important for wintering waterbirds. Anser anser are from the Icelandic breeding population.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: First identified in 1989; no significant boundary changes since then. Digitised onto 1:50,000 scale OS maps.
