Site details


Site description: An exposed north-facing rocky and sandy shoreline running west from the town of Fraserburgh. The IBA includes a narrow fringe of sand-dunes and saltmarsh. The IBA is important for wintering waders.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Delineation rationale: First identified as Quarry Head and Fraserburgh Coast in 1989; extended and renamed in 1992; no significant boundary changes since. Digitised onto 1:50,000 scale OS maps.
