Site details

Site description: Ynys Feurig is a group of small, low-lying islands situated up to 1 km offshore, whilst the very exposed Skerries lie 3 km out to sea. The vegetation on most of the islands is sparse. At Cemlyn Bay, a shingle storm-beach forms a bar between a tidal lagoon surrounded by saltmarsh and the open shore. The IBA supports large tern colonies.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Delineation rationale: First identified in 1989 as Anglesey Islands and Cemlyn Bay; renamed in 1992. SPA boundary used from JNCC; digitised at 1:10,000 scale.
