Site details

Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Delineation rationale: KBA covers mountains west of Wamena, from tops above the North Baliem to Lake Habbema (an AZE site in 2005, delisted in 2010), Mt Trikora (Wilhelmina) and ridges leading off to south. Area wide to cover several species of mountain rodents and old records of Zaglossus.
