Site details


Site description: An expanse of the Irish Sea coastline stretching from Little Orme's Head to Rhyl, and extending about 6 km seawards. The site is important for wintering waterbirds, and Tadorna tadorna and Charadrius hiaticula breed along the shoreline.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: First identified in 2000; no significant changes to boundary since then. Digitised onto 1:50,000 scale OS maps.
