Site details
Site description: Lago de Las Minas, also known as Lago la Preciosa, is approximately 6 km southeast of San José Alchichica in Puebla, Mexico. Besides the lake, important habitat includes the surrounding bullrush vegetation. Threats include agriculture and extraction of water
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site contains the entire known population of Lithobates chichicuahutla.
Manageability of the site: The entire lake is approximately 1 km long by 0.5 km wide, thus this is a very small site.
Delineation rationale: Site was an existing KBA/AZe identified during the 2015-2018 amphibian AZE update. The delineation was revised by reducing it to only include habitat relevant to the species.
