Site details


Site description: A tidal estuary containing the only intertidal flats on the east coast of Norfolk, which is complemented by adjacent wet grassland in the Broadland IBA. The site is important for wintering and passage wildfowl and waders.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Delineation rationale: Added into the Norfolk Broads site in 1992; split from Norfolk Broads in 2000; extended to include missing parts of the SPA, Haddiscoe Island and Humberstone Marshes in 2007. 2000 area, 515ha. SPA boundary used from JNCC; digitised at 1:10,000 scale. Additional area added on 1:50,000 maps.
