Site details

Site description: A subalpine, mountainous area in the south-central Alps. It includes the southern part of low Valtellina and the high parts of Val Brembana, Val Seriana and Val di Scalve. Extensive broadleaved and coniferous woodlands, alpine grasslands and rocky areas predominate. The main land-uses are linked to nature conservation and to agriculture and forestry in mountain habitats.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: The area is important for five of the 10 species of the Eurasian high-montane biome, and for Aquila chrysaetos.
