Site description: Located in the centre of the Hengduan mountain range between the Nu Jiang and Lancang Jiang rivers. Meili Xueshan is a holy mountain to Tibetans. It has 13peaks of above 6,000 m including Mount Kawagebo (Kagebo) which, at 6,740 m, is the highest peak in Yunnan. No systematic ornithological surveys have been conducted in theIBA, but it is believed to be of ornithological importance.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
