Site details

Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs. Alliance for Zero Extinction (2018): site confirmed as an AZE site during the AZE project (2015-2018). Taxonomy, nomenclature and Red List category follow the IUCN 2016 Red List.
Delineation rationale: 02/2008: following IBA/KBA crosswalk, the 1999-IBA/2005-AZE of Menabe Forest Complex has been split into two KBAs -- Andranomena Special Reserve and Menabe Future SAPM. 03/2010: this 2008 KBA incorporates the 2010 AZE named 'Menabe - Andranomena' [the three AZE trigger spp occur in Menabe but not in Andranomena]. 2014-03-11 (BL Secretariat): a site area of 77719 ha was calculated by GIS from the site polygon.
