Site details
Site description: This IBA includes Tamiš valley from entrance in Serbia (from Romania) near Jaša Tomić village to the Orlovat village in total length of 29 river km. Tamiš river represent last unregulated, wild river that regularly floods surrounding grounds. Various aluvial, lowland habitats alternate each other includes flooded forest stands, marshes, wet depresions, alkaline meadows and pastures, agricultural land and large fishponds near Sutjeska and Neuzina villages and several smaller ones near Botoš and Sečanj. IBA covers territories of Sečanj and Zrenjanin municipalities.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
