Site details

Site description: A narrow peninsula with shallow fjord areas containing shoals and banks with an intertidal zone, saltmarsh and some brackish lagoons. There are grazing-meadows on the landward side and cultivated areas with scattered habitation.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
Additional biodiversity: Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive bred at the site in 1988, including Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Philomachus pugnax, Sterna paradisaea, S. albifrons and Asio flammeus, but no recent data are available on breeding birds.
