Site details
Site description: This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within High Seas International Waters and the Pacific, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 201162 km2 and is 423 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 1987 to 4567 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.33 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 28.3 and 29.04 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.07 and 0.12 mg/m3.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
