Site details
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified by the 2010 CEPF Mediterranean Ecosystem Profile process. Taxonomy and nomenclature follow the 2008 IUCN Red List. The site holds a significant population of the following species which, although not yet Red-List-assessed at the global level, are thought to have a restricted range, therefore the site has been tagged with the KBA Irreplaceability 1 criterion: PLANTAE: Artemsia flahaultii; Centaurea theryi; Cicer atlanticum; Koelia embergeri.
Delineation rationale: 2014-02-27 (BL Secretariat): site area of 350000 ha calculated from KBA polygon, rounded to nearest 10%.
