Site details


Site description: Sea cliffs facing Isfjorden. There is shipping traffic (boats going to and from Longyearbyen). This site was named `Grumant' in he previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: Breeding seabirds include Rissa tridactyla (10,000 pairs) and Uria lomvia (20,000 individuals).
