Site details


Site description: Large raised bog with many small lakes and a zone of transitional mire and fen in the centre. In particular the southern part of the site is used for peat extraction. Listed as an IBA since 1994 [3, 4, 1]. Partially protected: there is a 85.5% overlap with Cena bog restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
