Site details


Site description: The IBA is a 43-km long and 3-4-km wide tidal fjord with fringing saltmarsh and sand-dunes (135 km of coastline in all). Human settlements, industrial plants and harbours are being developed along the shore and tourist boat traffic is increasing.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Additional biodiversity: The site regularly holds more than 20,000 wintering waterbirds.
