Site description: Two large and predominantly raised bogs surrounded by coniferous and deciduous forests near the border with Russia. Listed as an IBA since 1994 [5, 6, 1]. High protection level: there is a 87.7% overlap with two restricted nature reserves and candidate SPAs, Klesniku bog and Gulbju and Platpirovas bogs
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that was identified using previously established criteria and thresholds for the identification of Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and for which available data indicate that it does not meet global KBA criteria and thresholds set out in the Global Standard.
