Site details


Site description: A large area of flood-plain, subject to irregular flooding by the River Havel, with Salix bushes, remnant alluvial forest, levees and the Schollener, Gülper and Pritzerber lakes.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The IBA is important as a stop-over site for passage wildfowl particularly geese (over 100,000 individuals), as well as being a migratory bottleneck, where up to 8,000 Grus grus regularly pass. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (non-breeding).
