Site details


Site description: An open, shallow bay with mainly sand and gravel sediments rich in benthic fauna, lying offshore from Vorpommern (Germany) and Poland. The IBA comprises only the German part of the bay.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The site is a wintering area for approximately 1.25 million seaducks, one of the largest concentrations in Europe.
