Site details


Site description: The site comprises a shallow bay, largely cut off from the sea apart from at three places. As a result the water is brackish. The water is nutrient-rich from rivers flowing into the lagoon.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: The site regularly holds 20,000 or more waterbirds in winter.
