Site details


Site description: This site occurs in the Sierra Madre Oriental of the Northwest of Hidalgo, Mexico and contains pine, pine-oak, and cloud forests. Threats include deforestation and fragmentation, which is taking place at the site due to expanding agricultural development and extraction of wood.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site contains the entire known populations of Chiropterotriton arboreus, Chiropterotriton terrestris, and Sarcohyla charadricola. Forty species of birds meet legacy KBA criteria and are in need of reassessment.
Manageability of the site: Site was identified as an IBA/KBA in 2014 by BirdLife partners. A manageability rationale is not available at this time.
Supersedes another site: Zacualtipan de los Angeles (SitrecID 29750), Tlanchinol (SitrecID10035)
Delineation rationale: Site was identified as an IBA/KBA in 2014 by BirdLife partners. The AZE site Zacualtipan de los Angeles overlapped this KBA boundary which should be amalgamated into this site and overlaps have been fixed with Barranca de Metztitlán.
