Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas)
Delineation rationale: The 2006 KBAs of Complexe de la Forêt du Plateau Mahafaly (SitRecID 6591; 178,800 ha) and Parc National de Tsimanampetsotsa (SitRecID 6590; 43,000 ha) were merged to form the 2014 KBA Parc National de Tsimanampetsotsa et extension (SitRecID 45392; 260,856 ha) as part of the CEPF Ecosystem Profile of Madagascar and West Indian Ocean Islands (2014).
