Site description: The site is included in the Senegalese Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The site overlaps partially with the Delta du Saloum UNESCO-MAB Biosphere Reserve.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance that meets the thresholds for at least one criterion described in the Global Standard for the Identification of KBAs.
Additional biodiversity: Seaward extension of important colonies of Royal Tern, Caspian Tern, Slender-billed Gull and Grey-headed Gull. All the previous species tigger IBA criteria: Royal Tern (LC) 46925-79803 individuals, Caspian Tern (LC) 13744-22908 individuals, Slender-billed Gull (LC) 13547-22581 individuals and Grey-headed Gull (LC) 21958-36600 individuals.
Delineation rationale: Seaward extension of important colonies of Royal Tern, Caspian Tern, Slender-billed Gull and Grey-headed Gull. Boundaries identified based on foraging distances (tracking data from GPS).
