Site details

Site description: Kabitaï (Khabitaye) Forest Reserve is located south-east of the town of Wassou and north of Dubréka on the south-western edge of the Fouta Djalon, some 20 km from the sea and only a short distance from Konkouré (IBA GN013). The habitat is mixed wooded savanna and grassland, although some areas are cultivated.
Rationale for qualifying as KBA: This site qualifies as a Key Biodiversity Area of international significance because it meets one or more previously established criteria and thresholds for identifying sites of biodiversity importance (including Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas, Alliance for Zero Extinction sites, and Key Biodiversity Areas) KBA identified in the CEPF Ecosystem Profile of the Guinea Forests of West Africa Hotspot (2015). Taxonomy, nomenclature and threat status follow the 2013 IUCN Red List.
Additional biodiversity: See Box and Table 3 for key species. In addition, 10 species of the Guinea–Congo Forests biome have been recorded; see Table 3. The area has yet to be properly surveyed. Non-bird biodiversity: None known to BirdLife International.
